STEAMER LANE, SANTA CRUZ, California (October 20, 2004) -- The Cold Water Classic is blessed with clean conditions and solid swell for Men's round 3 (192) and round 4 (160). The aftermath of the storm that wreaked havoc in Northern California for the opening day of the event left behind light off shore winds and consistent 4'-6' surf with occasional 8' sets rolling through under beautiful sunny skies.

The local surf population of Santa Cruz put on a strong performance for the surf fans lining the 200 yards of cliff to the lighthouse of Steamer Lane. Local standouts included Homer Henard posting the high score of the day with a 15.0. Other local standouts included Julian Sekon, Jordan Carter, Russell Smith, and Cold Water Classic 2-time champion Adam Replogle who was one of the only competitors to charge middle peak on his 7'0".

With a cumulative prize purse of $75,000 on the line at the last opportunity to gain WQS points the on the mainland USA, the international field of competitors were maximizing every opportunity the Lane provided. Giving the locals a run for their money were Brandon Guilmett (Huntington Beach), Mark Matthews (Australia), Magnum Martinez (Venezuela), Danny Nichols (Huntington), Mike Dodd (Hawaii), and Hank Gaskell (Hawaii), all winning their heats advancing on to round 5.

Weather and swell conditions will continue to improve for Thursday producing consistent 6'-8' surf. Surfline expects the biggest waves through the morning with a gradual decrease in size into the afternoon.
