The O'Neill Cold Water Classic (CWC) has been Northern California's premiere
professional surfing event since it's inception in 1987. The cold water
and rugged conditions at Steamer Lane have become a right of passage for
aspiring surfers as they set their skills against the elements and a field
of world-class surf stars. The arena-like setting is sure to play host
to amazing showdowns as the final event of the Surfing America Pro Surfing
Tour on the US Mainland.
World Qualifying Series 4 Star
The Cold Water Classic, now upgraded to an Association of Surfing Professionals
(ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) Men’s and Women’s 4 Star, is the final
professional surfing event on the mainland USA.
Past Champs
As a tribute to previous champions and the legacy of this incredible surfing
event, the Past Champions heat brings former event winners together for
a super heat exhibition to duke it out for bragging rights. Click
here for more on Past Champions.
Airshow
Santa Cruz is the birthplace of the Airshow concept, originally conceived
by local Shawn "Barney" Barron and Surfing magazine editors in 1996. The
Airshow is spectator-friendly and easy to understand with manuevers crossing
over from skateboaring and snowboarding. The same maneuvers performed
in the skate and snow categories on static mediums are seen performed
by today's top aerialists in the variable conditions of the ocean. The
Arishow/Expression Session will invite an elite field of aerialists to
compete in a single heat for $1,000.
Nocturnal Events
Complementing the action in the water is the action at night. Take
